I think you'll like the adapter and I recommend it highly, but you should know that what you receive does NOT look like the photo that accompanies the item listing here on Amazon.com. The adapter I received is a single "L"-shaped piece of plastic, with the GBA SP connector (male) in one end and a hole for a 1/8" mini-plug from your headphones in the other end. Although the housing is plastic, it seems very sturdy - and the contact surfaces are obviously of adequate quality, since the sound you can extract is very good. The unit is also a relatively small, out-of-the-way, and securely anchored addition to the GBA SP's profile. The only way you might damage the adapter is if you dropped it (mounted on your GBA SP) on a hard floor or smacked it into something while you were playing.
Have fun rockin' out to your GBA SP with a set of stereo headphones! I am!
Pros: Sound is just as good as with the older gba's built-in output jack
Cons: Cable is a bit tight when inserting/removing from the gba sp port.
For a longer answer, there is actually a lot to be said about this gameboy advance to headphone adapter.
Pros:
• Cheap
• Lightweight
• Feels sturdy
• Easily available
Cons
• Form factor (kind of large/bulky)
• Wire thickness
• Quality control
I like this adapter because it is a great replacement for a product no longer sold. If you don’t want to shell out big bucks for an authentic cable, this is a great option. It is lightweight, but has solid construction. Also for the price ($4.99 at time of purchase) you can’t beat it. The sound quality is also nice. Just using a cheap pair of earbuds I was really impressed with how nice my gameboy advance sounds now!
What I don’t like about this adaptor is that it consists of two very bulky and large plastic pieces with a very thin cord between them. The cord hangs down when the gameboy is held upright, and I worry that might put stress on the wires. I feel like the manufacturer could have went down two paths. The first path was to increase the size of the cable or at least given it more insulation to strengthen it, and so that it could match the amount of plastic on the rest of the adapter. The second path would be to make the amount of plastic around the sockets and plugs thinner. I don’t think a headphone jack needs that much plastic around it. They could have slimmed the plastic coating to be thinner and less bulky, making the wire not droop as much and hang less. It seems this product is stuck between these two paths. Weak wire and extreme plastic.
That being said, it is not even close to a good enough reason not to order it. It fulfills its purpose cheaply and effectively. I would like to also note that many people have experienced quality control issues, with pins being bent which stop function, or even no pins at all. I acknowledge this is a problem, but I am happy to say that I, like many others, have not had this issue.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a small adaptor to play their gameboy advances with headphones.
One thing to keep in mind though is that you cannot use this and charge your SP at the same time as they both use the same jack. So if you want to play with headphones exclusively or something, you'll need to keep your SP charged so you won't have to switch to the wall outlet when your battery turns red. Well, that or just wait until it's fully charged before playing again of course. But that'll be a few hours and if you're excited to finish something, well, good luck fighting the urge, ha ha!

Mine plugs just fine into my GBA SP, but the circular input is too tight to fit my Apple earbuds. I had to bust out another pair of big studio headphones, which of course I'm not gonna use for gaming, and it just BARELY fit.
Even with that, there's always a constant low hum, and you have to be precise with where the volume slider is, because at certain levels it creates a high-pitched squeal for some reason.
Definitely go with something else, though it looks like there aren't many other options out there.
